Merger enhances Callenberg’s global service capability

3 December, 2003

The Callenberg Group AB of Sweden has signed an agreement with C. W. Obel A/S to acquire Semco Maritime’s Marine Service & Switchboard division. The acquisition, which takes effect on December 3, 2003, consolidate_ens the know-how and experience of skilled marine electricians and engineers from both organisations, while enhancing Callenberg’s capability to serve its customers on a global basis.

Owned 100 per cent by the Swedish private equity group Segulah, the Callenberg Group is the largest independent marine electrical engineering company in Scandinavia. Callenberg serves the international marine and offshore industries, offering customised solutions from its headquarters in Sweden, and from subsidiaries in the US and Singapore.

Semco Maritime is Scandinavia’s largest manufacturer of marine switchboards. The company’s Marine Service Division has the capabilities to serve yards and ship operators on a global basis.

New subsidiary
In connection with the acquisition, a new company, Semco Callenberg Marine A/S, has been established as a subsidiary of the Callenberg Group AB, Sweden. Semco Callenberg Marine will conduct business from its existing location in Odense, Denmark, employing the same management and staff.

Lars Marcusson, CEO, Callenberg Group AB, points out that the combined know-how and experience of the marine electricians and engineers in the two organisations gives his company the capability to handle turn-key newbuilding projects for shipyards, as well as complex ship conversion and service assignments.

“The volume sales of switchboards gained as a result of this merger will enable Semco Callenberg Marine to improve its competitiveness,” says Lars Marcusson, who believes that this will benefit customers, in turn, further strengthening the company’s already strong market position.

Business as usual
“By combining the strengths of the two organisations, our geographical presence, and thus the capability to serve our customers on a global basis, will be greatly enhanced. We are keen to emphasise that it is business as usual for all Callenberg and Semco customers,” concludes Lars Marcusson.
